I absolutely love having fortune tellers as an option to get students communicating in the target language. It’s one of those activities that most students have seen before. I know I used to play with this when I was little. I loved making them. Check out these 4 ways that fortune tellers can be using in Spanish class.
1. Bellwork Activity
Jump start your class period with a quick speaking activity. Getting your students to use the fortune teller activity will for sure give you time to do all the things you need to do like take attendance.
2. Use as a Station Activity
Fortune teller will be a great activity for stations. Students can rotate partners with the students at their station. It’s great practice to keep students rotating through questions and talking to different classmates in the target language.
Stations vary in length of time depending on the activities. This activity will work whether students are in a station for 5-20 minutes. Students answer different questions and talk to different students. For longer times at stations, you can provide students with possible extension questions and rejoinders to use in responses in conversation.
3. Exit Ticket Activity
Want an exit ticket that has students chatting. Give students the task to ask one student another question using the fortune teller.
It’s an exit ticket that you don’t have to check but you can definitely ask questions by random as students leave the classroom.
4. Fast Finisher & Review
Everyone has fast finishers! Those students that finish work that you thought would take X amount of time but it took them wayyyy less time. 🫣 This is a great activity for students to review questions and answers.
You can set up a station full of different fortune tellers. Students can go pick one, fold, and start practicing OR use one that they’ve already been working with in class.
Use this ¿Qué te gusta hacer? fortune teller to get students chatting about things they like to do. Had some success with fortune teller activities? Check out the growing bundle for fortune teller activities here.
