I’ve always been fascinated with Day of the Dead traditions and symbols. That’s why I love teaching about Day of the Dead every time November 1st rolls around.
This year is unique for many of us because we aren’t in our classrooms, BUT we can still share our love for the celebration with digital Day of the Dead activities.
I have created 6 digital resources that will definitely help keep the energy and excitement about teaching and learning about Day of the Dead in Spanish class!
Day of the Dead Digital Puzzles
Love using puzzles in class? Hate cutting and prep? Distance learning?
If you can answer yes to any of these questions, these digital puzzles will be a great addition to your Day of the Dead unit. Students will match Spanish vocabulary to images that represent that vocabulary. AND…it’s all on Google Slides!
Cuts prep time and it can be assigned to students individually.
Day of the Dead Digital Vocabulary Mazes
Extension activities? Yes, please! Mazes are great to get students thinking in the target language.
Students will have reading comprehension with descriptions of the Day of the Dead symbols and practice making connections with Spanish vocabulary and images.
Did I mention these activities are all digital? Yep. Another Google Slides activity to easily assign to students.
Day of the Dead Boom Cards
Self-checking? Oh yeah. Interactive? You know it! No Prep? Nothing at all!
If you’re looking for an activity with a little bit of everything, this is PERFECT! Short readings with images to make connections, comprehension questions, drag drop, and listening!
Oh yeah! The readings also have audio so that students can get that oh so precious input even if they’re not in class!
Day of the Dead Interpretive Reading Activity
Want to test knowledge and reading skills? Students will read descriptions for symbols of Day of the Dead. Then, they will drag vocabulary to match those images.
Day of the Dead Digital Learning Stations
Love stations like I do? Yes?! I knew it!
You can assign these stations individually or collaboratively in breakout rooms!
These activities are for reading comprehension and listening. Students will review what they’ve learned, learn about a tradition in Oaxaca, and have listening practice. All stories have audio for extra input. Oh yeah. Jackpot.
Day of the Dead Digital Escape Room
Collaboration + Racing = Engaged Students
Your students will LOVE this activity for the racing to beat the clock component of escape rooms. Time will fly and they will be reviewing vocabulary while having an amazing time.
The escape is meant to be challenging and it’s in comprehensible Spanish! Activities include matching, unscrambling, decoding, word search, info sort, and description reading comprehension.

Here’s what this teacher had to say…
“These activities are making life so much easier now that we are getting so busy with the new school year. My school is 100% Distance Learning so I need digital and engaging resources that I can count on for quality, effectiveness and provide me with the feedback I need.”
