5 Important Reminders for Teachers

important reminders for teacher self-care

Things have been crazy to say the least our profession. Constant changes. So many new things are constantly added to teachers plates. Expectation and request are endless. I’ve had to remind myself of some things to keep pushing. Check out these 5 important reminders for teachers I want you to always remember!

1. Take care of your self.

This is one of the MOST important reminder for teachers. I’ve felt teacher burn out so many times that I’ve not been able to give my students my best. You CANNOT put yourself and care for yourself on the back burner.

Take breaks. Spend time with family at home. Watch tv or binge something. Exercise. Do whatever you need to do to make sure YOU are not exhausting yourself.

Don’t like any of those suggestions. Check out this free download with 50 self-care ideas for teachers.

2. Take it one day at a time.

Things are changing for us always. Sometimes all you can do is take it one day at a time. Monitor and adjust is not something new to teachers.

3. Try one thing first.

Platforms, oh platforms. How many new platforms have you heard over the past year? IT IS OVERWHELMING. I know.

Pick one of them. Pick one thing to try. You can’t use all the platforms and you don’t have to. Your students will grateful for that and you’ll be glad too.

4. Relationships.

Focus on building relationships with your students. You’ve probably heard this ad nauseam but it’s so important. During tough times and later in life, your students won’t remember that AMAZING AWESOME lesson you planned. They’re going to remember how you treated them, how you made them feel, and the relationship you had. I know that’s what I remember. Those are the teachers that inspired me and influenced me.

5. Give yourself grace.

Super important reminder for teachers here.

Please do this! (I’m putting this in all caps to make a firm statement.) YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY THIS SCHOOL YEAR! You’re not defined by test scores. You are a great teacher.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. You don’t deserve that.

Do you have more important reminders for teachers that can help teachers having a tough time? Drop them in the comments. I’d love to know what’s been helping you.
