Starting the Journey: What made me want to blog!

¡Hola a todos!

My name is Jade. I’m the face behind La Secundaria on a Teachers Pay Teachers store you may have seen. I’m going into my 6th year as a Spanish teacher. I’ve taught many levels of Spanish, from Spanish 1 to Spanish IB Year 2. This year I will be teaching Spanish 1, one of my favorite levels. 😀

I’ve wanted to blog for so long but I’ve kept putting it off. Now, I’m deciding to dive in and take the plunge into blogging and something else in my classroom. 

I’m taking the plunge into using comprehensible input, also known as CI, in my classroom this year. I imagine there are many people in the same boat as I am with comprehensible input. If you haven’t heard, comprehensible input is a method that teachers use to teach Spanish in a more natural way. Students learn through listening, using/seeing visuals, and making connections to the target language. Communication in the target language is more meaningful.

I’m going to document my journey of comprehensible input to encourage other teachers and share ideas. Be on the lookout for my first blog at Secondary Spanish Space – Taking the Plunge: How I’m Shifting to C.I. this year. 

I hope to point other teachers that want to use comprehensible input in the right direction. I love communicating with the Spanish teacher community on Instagram and Facebook and sharing my ideas through blogging is something that I’m excited about. 

I’ll be sharing tips on how to make the transition, games and activities that work well in my class, and resources that help my students successful in language acquisition. This will be a year of new things for me. New state. New school. New teaching methods. I’m excited about all the possibilities this year holds.
